HOTTEST COLOR OF 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (drum-roll)

PANTONE announced the color of the year for 2011, it is none other than Honeysuckle…..the vibrant reddish pink was chosen for its encouraging and uplifting effects…the article said. The article continued by saying that it is a hue that help meet the challenges of everyday life.

Well, it’s my opinion and you know I always have an opinion….that color can have a huge impact in our mood, our mental state and it can really affect our energy… to those of us who are in tune with our environment, our surroundings we notice...
To the plain eye, and I mean this in a very respectful way- their surroundings and color really does not mean that much…that is until these later two are in anyway negative, un appealing or dull. But color and our surroundings do affect us even if we don't notice.

Much to “the plain eyed” folk’s disbelief, we are affected by our surroundings, by color and by our environment. I have noticed if nowhere else, in client’s home. Those clients who claim to be plain janes- or that they are fine with no color and white walls…First, white has it’s place in décor and home style. But most interesting of all is that, those clients who are eased into a colored environment, who are willing to be a little daring…once given some color in their space; even if it’s just a little, such as bursts of color in accessories, chotchkes' and such…they smile. They like and they say…oh my I had no idea…

Why? Because whether you are in tuned or not, whether you are plain or not…color affects us…Think about this: If you close your eyes and quickly thought about a hospital and had to burst out and say a color or a feeling?
What would you say?
And most importantly; what would the feeling be that you immediately felt?
I am talking about your regular hospital, not a brand new one that was just completed/remodeled.
Well… here goes for what PANTONE Executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, said about Honeysuckle:
Honeysuckle is captivating, stimulating color that gets our adrenaline going -it’s perfect to ward off the blues.
Hmmmm! I wonder what would happen if this color was selected as an accent color, in a facility where people were being treated for depression…?

Let me know what you think?

Have you been affected by color? If so let us know, how, why and which color affected you and how it affected you?
Thank you

WHY IS IT A GREAT TIME TO IMPROVE YOUR HOME? NOW! continued-

In the previous post, base on the report by CBS News, it was also mentioned that since home prices went down by 22% since 2006, homeowners might think that this a good time to trade up for a new master bath or a modern feature you want in a home. The truth is in short, you won’t be able to sale your home easily today, nor that you will find what you want in someone else’s home.

Consider the commissions you will have to pay to sell the home- the example the article uses determines a commission of $25,000 dollars on a $400,000 thousand dollar home- in my opinion that should give you a pretty nice master bath if you decide to remodel. $25,000 plus another $5-$7,000 in closing cost if you move…and you know every move adds cost even if your friends and family are helping you move…

Even though the article calls it the new real estate rule today…I think, it has always been like that…but when “we lived in a bubble” (not for health reasons, but for greed!) we were assured by inflated prices that we would sell our home for the price we wanted-regardless. We should never over improve for the neighborhood, or the house.   The simple way to remember this rule, again in my humble opinion is expressed towards the end of the article. Remodeling a kitchen that is only ten years old just because you don’t like the style, you are not going to make your money back. But if your kitchen is from the 1960’s upgrading it….it’s a must and you will get your money back.

let me know what you think?

WHY IS IT A GREAT TIME TO IMPROVE YOUR HOME? NOW!

ACCORDING TO MONEY MAGAZINE’S - AMANDA GENGLER, THIS IS A PARTICULAR GOOD TIME TO DO HOME RENOVATIONS EVEN PESIMISTIC STATISTICS MAY SAY OTHERWISE.

CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
-THE COST OF MOVING UP VS FIXING UP
-INTEREST RATES TODAY: HOME EQUITY LINES OF CREDIT- IT COULD BE AS LOW AS 3%. HOWEVER 4% TO 5% IS STILL FAVORABLE. COMPARED TO 2008 WHEN RATES HIT HIGHER THAN 8.25% (ACCORDING TO HSH.COM)
-CONSIDER WHAT THE MONEY YOU WOULD INVEST IN FIXING UP YOUR HOME WOULD DO IN A TYPICAL BANK ACCOUNT AND MONEY FUND PAYING A LOT LESS THAN 1%.
  • ALSO CONSIDER ALSO THE FOLLOWING, BUT DON’T EXPECT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING OR IF IT’S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS. (THIS IS NOT AMANDA’S OPINION, THIS IS MINE)
  • IT’S TRUE THAT THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY IS STILL SLOW, IT’S TRUE THAT DUE TO HOME BUILDING INDUSTRY BEING AT ALMOST A STAND STILL THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE COMPETING TO BID ON YOUR PROJECT. BUT BE AWARE THAT; THIS INDUSTRY COLLAPSE HAS ALSO PUT MORE PEOPLE OUT THERE WANTING/OR THINKING THAT SINCE THEY BUILT A SHED THEY CAN ALSO REMODEL YOUR KITCHEN OR BUILD YOUR ADDITION.
  • NOT SO, A LOT OF BUILDERS, FOREMEN AND HIGHLY PAID INDIVIDUALS HAVE RESULTED TO DOING REMODELING OUT OF THE BACK OF THEIR TRUCKS TO SURVIVE. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU? WELL, FOR ONE YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. IF THEIR PRICE IS A LOT CHEAPER THAN ALL YOUR OTHER QUOTES, THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM

-IN THIS ARTICLE AMANDA ESTIMATES THAT A DIFFERENCE IN “10% TO 20 % BELOW WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE PAID WHEN REAL ESTATE WAS GOING GANGBUSTERS” AFTER BEING IN THIS INDUSTRYHANDS-ON FOR OVER 15 YEARS, MY HUMBLE OPINIO IS THAT IF THE PRICE DIFFERENCE IS ABOVE 10%, THEN THE DIFFERENCE WILL BE MADE UP LATER ON DURING THE PROJECT.
  • IT COULD BE BY SACRIFICING THE QUALITY OF PRODUCTS/MATERIALS
  • IT COULD BE BY GOING WITH LOWEST BIDDER-FOR YOUR PLUMBING, HVAC OR ELECTRICAL WORK.
  • IT COULD BE IN THE FORM OF CHANGE ORDERS…BE SURE TO OBTAIN A DETAILED SCOPE OF WHAT IS INCLUDED AND WHAT IS NOT.
